How to successfully grow pansies from seed

Years ago I spiraled down the pansy and viola rabbit hole, desperate for information that was incredibly difficult to find. I decided to put everything I had learned, both through research and trial and error, into a book, so that anyone else who had the same questions would be able to find all the answers in one place.

Pansies – How to Grow, Reimagine, and Create Beauty with Pansies and Violas published in March 2025 from Timber Press. I am so grateful for how warmly this book has been received, and how many people are now willing to give pansies a chance, particularly in growing them from seed.

While books prove an invaluable tool for learning, there are occasions where in-person instruction can better clarify a process to full certainty.  For those who find hands-on instruction a helpful accompaniment to books, and as a thank you for your support, I am releasing a series of videos to  help ensure you have complete success with your pansies and violas.

This first video will cover the initial process and important tips to remember when starting pansies and violas from seed.  I have heard many people say they find it intimidating and that they have failed on multiple attempts. I hope that between my book and this video, you will find quite the opposite to be true. Once you understand and meet a few key requirements, I think you will find great happiness and ease in starting your pansies from seed.
